Why Kunbi fabric?
Kunbi fabric has been one of the only symbols of Goa's weaving heritage. The advent of the Portuguese impacted this native clothing of our region due to which it is the need of the hour to revive this indigenous fabric and preserve the true identity of the original Kunbi tribe of Goa so as to restore the dignity of the true sons of the soil and to upscale the usage of a skin and nature friendly fabric.
our aim
We, at Parampara look forward to make Kunbi sarees a most sought-after garment among the fashion elite as well as generate employment for the tribals and the locals
Need of The Hour
Kunbi fabric has been one of the only symbols of Goa's weaving heritage. Despite having great demand for Kunbi handloom saris, supplies are limited due to unskilled craftsmanship. Handloom weaving is the second largest employment-generating sector in India and hence to generate enough employment we need to march towards the growth of such handloom industries. It is the need of the hour to revive this indigenous fabric and preserve the true identity of the original Kunbi tribe in Goa and to upscale the usage of such a skin and nature friendly fabric.
About Kunbi Fabric
Kunbis are a self-indigenous Goan community practicing both Hinduism and Christianity. Kunbi community during the older times used to wear a handwoven fabric called as Kunbi saris thereby named after Kunbi tribe. It is a symbol of their rich heritage and craftsmanship. This garment features a plain body, often in earthy shades such as red with a contrasting border and a pallu. Over the years many other shades have been introduced. Being a part of Goa's indigenous identity, we at OTRA are aiming towards reviving and marketing the Kunbi produce to make it more acceptable in Goa and on Global platforms.

making of the fabric
Crafting a Kunbi sari is a labor-intensive process that requires exceptional skills and precision. Kunbi fabric is traditionally handwoven on looms with locally sourced material such as cotton or silk threads. The products and substances used in the production is 100% organic and authentic and uses age-old traditional methods of weaving. It is woven using earthly colors. The plant dyes used for the fabric is produced within Goa with natural ingredients such as iron oxide and rice water. It takes about 1 and a half to 2 days to weave a single Kunbi sari which is up to 5.8 mtr. long.
